Jade Bradbury-Kirkham and Riya Puttanna are joint winners of the latest MyPlace competition. Jade is studying for a MA in Literary and Cultural Studies (Department of English & Creative Writing), and Riya is in the First year of her LLB Honours programme.
MyPlace is Lancaster-based reflective learning tool which provides students the opportunity to record and share their reflections with peers and build a personal record of their Lancaster experiences (MyPlace http://myplace.lancs.ac.uk/.)
A wide variety of articles were submitted to the competition, which was judged by three of our undergraduate Student Mentors: Michael Regan, Malgorzata Czerwien and Szymon Kikla. Please click here to find out more about the MyPlace Student Mentor programme.
Jade & Riya were invited to meet with the Director of CELT, Dr. Paul Rodaway, and the Manager of the Learning Technology Group, Dr. Rich Ranker, for an informal discussion about MyPlace. The winners had an opportunity to share their MyPlace experiences and find out about the latest developments being planned for this summer.
Jade said she found MyPlace to be a “safe social space” and said she was reassured by the fact that MyPlace was only open to Lancaster University students and staff. Jade also added that tools like MyPlace can be really useful and can be used as support networks if students needed help or advice. Riya said she found MyPlace “easy to use” also adding that she enjoys reading feedback from other users in the form of articles and comments.

Riya also added that she would continue to use MyPlace to record her reflections so that she could build up a record of her Lancaster experiences and draw upon this when later preparing herself for job applications and interviews.
