General Information

The remit of the International Office is to develop and implement the University’s overall international policy. Staff in the International Office maintain a network of strategic partnerships in target markets, represent Lancaster University at a wide range of overseas recruitment events, manage and develop overseas collaborative programmes, manage and develop study abroad and exchange programmes, undertake market research and produce communications and promotional materials.

The International Office has the following areas of responsibility:

• International liaison and recruitment including the development and maintenance of key recruitment markets
• Supporting new market development
• Development of and liaison with the network of overseas university representatives
• Hosting visits from partner institutions, overseas officials, university representatives, embassies etc
• Programme identification and development with partner institutions overseas
• Promotion, management and development of the Study Abroad and Exchange programmes, including the Erasmus programme

The Director of the International Office is Stephen Parkin who will join the University on 2 November 2009.

The International Office comprises 3 areas:

• Overseas Programmes Unit
• Study Abroad and Exchange

The Open Recruitment team

The four International Officers in the Open Recruitment Team manage the marketing and recruitment activities in specific regions of the world and represent Lancaster University at Higher Education Exhibitions. They facilitate academic and strategic visits within their region, developing and maintaining relationships with appointed agents, institutions, British Council Offices and Embassies among others to recruit well qualified undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Overseas Programmes Unit

The Overseas Programmes Unit (OPU) team identifies, establishes, maintains and develops relationships and collaborative programmes with institutions that Lancaster University has selected to be key partners in a variety of countries. The programmes include access and dual degree courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Other activity such as joint research and teaching, organisation of joint conferences and study visits also form part of the partnerships.

Study Abroad and Exchange

The Study Abroad and Exchange team is responsible for the recruitment and admission of fee paying and exchange students who study at Lancaster for less than one year (and who return to their home institution to complete their degree). The team also facilitates the process for Lancaster undergraduate students to study abroad as part of their degree, either within Europe through the Erasmus Programme or elsewhere in the world at one of Lancaster’s exchange partners.
