General Information
ISS is the University's central provider of ICT services. It is organised around three groupings which together are responsible for the coordinated delivery of the university's information systems. These systems and services enable our business processes, our teaching and learning activities, and the systems and data networks for communication.
ISS support groups are located in Faculties to help deliver services locally and to meet local needs and priorities.
To contact ISS, call the Service Desk on 10987 or use the information provided on this Page.
The Service Strategy and Communications Group provides support from the short through to the more advanced training courses delivered by ICT Focus. Regional support is provided by the JISC-funded Regional Support Centre and the Strategy and Communications team deliver regular news bulletins and newsletters so maintaining the communications interface between customers of ISS and Central Services.
The Service Design and Project Quality Office co-ordinates the ISS Programme of large scale ICT Projects and ISS Goals. It ensures that project management practices are executed to an agreed standard across ISS and that ITIL processes are embedded into the project lifecycle.
The Service Delivery and Operations Office provides first line support in the form of the ISS Service Desk staffed by our trained IT professionals. Support for video and audio services across campus is delivered by the Digital Technologies Unit and expert technical support in the Management School provided by the highly skilled ISS Operations and Support engineers.
The Faculty IT (FASS) Team co-ordinates and delivers IT support to the centre and north campus including the Library, University House, School of Health and Medicine and Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. They deliver locally focused and differentiated support with ISS ITIL processes and practices.
The Corporate Information Systems (CIS) section develops and supports the University's administrative systems. These include the institutional portal and web services; research portals; Student Records and Admissions; Human Resources, Finance; Estates and Facilities Management; Learning Technology; and a large portfolio of minor systems such as the data warehouse, car parking, helpdesks, etc.
The Technical Infrastructure Group (TIG) maintain central computer systems within the university, supporting the teaching, research and administrative activities of the University, e.g. mail systems; PC labs; the Unix and research HPC clusters; printing facilities; and central filestore and WWW servers.
TIG is responsible for all of the university data networks, as well as for the VOIP telephony service. TIG supports various regional networks e.g. CANLMAN - a JANET(UK) funded facility.
