Cisco Academy Structure

Cisco Network Academy Programme

The Cisco Networking Academy Programme is based on a hierarchical support structure as shown in the graphic on the right. Cisco directly support the Cisco Academy Training Centres (CATC) who in turn support and train the Regional Academies. ICTFocus at Lancaster University has been given the role of a Regional Academy in order to support the Lancashire and Cumbria region.

It is the role of the Regional Academy to train and support a number of Local Academies within their designated region. The Local Academies deliver the course curriculum directly to students. Typically Local Academies are FE and HE colleges or 6th form schools.

Training Models

The Cisco Network Academy Programme has two training models, a Closed Model and an Open Model. The type of training model used is on a per curriculum basis and is incorporated into the support contract for the choosen curriculum.

The closed training model is where the child academy may only receive instructor training from the parent academy that it has a support agreement with for the supported curriculum. The Cisco Certified Network Associate curriculum is an example of this.

In the open training model a child academy may obtain intructor training from any upper teir academy but has a support agreement with a parent academy. The IT Essentials curriculum is an example of this.

Support from ICT Focus

The support that we offer covers operational processes which help to establish and maintain your academy. This covers technical issues involving delivery of the supported curricula. In order to obtain support from Lancaster University for either curricula you will need to sign a support contract with us. The cost of this contract for CCNA support is £3000 per annum for the first two years which covers the cost of providing setup support and CCNA training for two members of staff. Subsequently, the annual cost falls to £1500 which covers the cost of support alone. Any additional CCNA Instructor training required will incur a cost of £85 per day per person. As part of this contract we offer support for the IT Essentials (ITE) curriculum for free, however ITE instructor training will incur a cost of £85 a day per person.

If you are interested only in the IT Essentials Curriculum, the annual cost of the support contract is £900. This does not include any training costs which will be charged at £85 per day per person.

As part of either contract we are happy to offer a discount to your staff on other courses that we run. This currently stands at 10% for all registered Academy Instructors at your institution and 5% for any other member of staff. We are also happy to advise you on any aspect of setting up as a Microsoft Academy as we have significant experience in this area.

If you are already an Academy and wish to take advantage of our support contract, please get in contact with us.
