Join us – March 1st, 8:00 pm at Pendle College Bar 74 for a night of charity, poetry, and advocacy!

The event will showcase the talents of Radio 4’s Bespoken Word poet Byron Vincent,
performance poet Miss P as well as the beautiful and wistful work of Nigerian Kal Iyalla.

Later in the evening Lancaster band ‘Soulrigg’ will be performing their stunning new song ‘Laughs out Loud’ which will kick off the launch of Stepping Stones Nigeria’s new five-minute ‘Stepping –Up film which highlights Stepping Stones Nigeria’s work to support vulnerable and abused children in the Niger Delta. The song will also be made available as a free download after the event.

The evening activities also includes, an open mic session which is a chance for you to present some of your own poetry, a raffle, lucky dip and food!

All proceeds go to Stepping Stones Nigeria.

Design a new College T-shirt

The time has come to design a new Pendle t-shirt and we are hoping that YOU will help us do just that! Please send your designs, preferably in jpeg format, to Jill in the College Office j.harpley@lancaster.ac.uk stating the colour of the shirt (our College colours are yellow and green). The best three designs will be printed up when the competition closes by the end of week 5 Lent Term and put on display in the College foyer. The winner will be decided by the junior and senior members of the college and get their design printed up with a custom made version for themselves. You can let your imagination run wild! Chinese New Year Learn to Cook – 6th Feb in the Pendle Rooms at 7.00 pm

The College is hosting another “Learn to Cook” session with University Chef, Julian Ankers at 7.00 pm on Wednesday, 6th February. The theme is Chinese Cookery and he will be demonstrating how to create Pork Dumplings with dips and Chicken/Vegetable Stir Fry.

The food available after the demonstration will be Port Spare Ribs, Chicken Stir Fry and Vegetable Stir Fry.

Tickets on sale from Pendle College Office for £2, which includes demo, supper and a recipe card. Catering have asked us not to sell tickets on the door as they will only be bringing down enough food to cover tickets sales.

Our very own Principal, Roger Gould, has challenged Frank Wareing (Fylde College Principal) to a Cook Off on Wednesday, 28th November in Pendle Bar 74. Please come and show your colours by buying a ticket for just two pounds. Roger and Frank will be ably assisted by sous-chefs Laurence Pullan and Simon Clarke. The subsidised tickets (available from the College Office) allow you to see the demo and contest, pick up a recipe card and then sample the meal afterwards.

On sale now in the College Office – tickets for the next Learn to Cook event on Wednesday, 7th November in the Pendle Rooms (7.00 pm start). Only £2 for a demonstration by the University Chefs of how to create Chicken Fricassee and Creamy Garlic Mushroom Stroganoff and a portion of each dish to eat afterwards. If you can’t stay for the meal then take a portion home to eat at a later date.

Battle of the Colleges is taking place during Global Entrepreneurship Week on Sunday 18th November 2012 from 1pm – 5pm where colleges will compete against each other using Xing. Prizes will be awarded! As well as a free lunch participation in the event will count towards your Lancaster Award under the ‘Additional Skills’ and the ‘Campus and Community’ categories. Later in the year there will be a full scale Enterprise: Battle of the Colleges which will determine which college, and team of students will go on to represent Lancaster University in the national competition (FLUX) during Easter, the winners will get the title of FLUX national champions. Plus each student will develop new employability skills, meet top class recruiters, have experiences to enhance their CV, meet new contacts and will also have an excellent time, this is a great opportunity to have a practice and get to know your team.

Learn to Cook demo and all you can eat…

Pendle’s first Learn to Cook demonstration of the term will be on Wednesday, 17th October from 6.30 until 7.30 pm in the Pendle Rooms. Come and learn how to make two delicious curries – vegetable and chicken without opening a jar or a can. After the demonstration you get curry for dinner! Learn to Cook with Pendle – 7.00 p.m. Wednesday, 1st February, 2012. Learn how to make Chiken Tikka and Vegetable Korma in the Pendle Rooms.

Your £2 ticket entitles you to watch the demonstration, try both dishes and take away recipe cards for each dish cooked.

TICKETS AVAILABLE from Jill in the College Office and from the Pendle Rooms from 7.00 pm Monday and Tuesday.

This demonstration will be run by Lee Maycock formerly working in the Ritz London and Michelin Restaurants such as Le Manoir aux Quat Saison.

Battle of the Colleges

Sunday 4^th March 2012: 1pm-4.30pm, Barker House Farm (Cartmel)

What is it? An inter college battle to see which college has the most enterprising students. Each college can submit a team of six students to compete in the Lancaster University Enterprise: Battle of the Colleges event. The teams are given a real world business scenario and have 90 minutes to develop an investment winning pitch to a selection of business minded staff, alumni and local entrepreneurs.

What can you win? The winning college not only wins the title and trophy for being the most enterprising college but gets the chance to represent Lancaster University at an international inter-university pitching competition (FLUX500). The competition is now in its 7^th year and has seen over 30,000 students take part from over 100 universities. The national champions also win £500 cash each!

What should I expect? An action packed event to help you increase your knowledge and understanding of enterprise and help you develop those job winning enterprise skills! The event kicks off with a free buffet lunch at 1pm in Barker House Farm and will wrap up at around 4.30pm. Last year many students came dressed to impress!
