The University Logo - Placement

The University logo is the combination of both the red graphical element and the Lancaster University text.  These elements should never be separated or adjusted in either size or relationship. The logo provides a visual shorthand which represents everything the University does and stands for, so it’s important that we maintain its integrity and are consistent in its use for all our audiences.

Wording always appears to the left of the symbol and should always be represented in positive colours. In certain circumstances, the logo may be reversed out of a red background. Please refer to the colour usage section of the communications toolkit or contact the Marketing Services team for more details.

Minimum Size

In print media, the University Logo should never be shown any smaller than the size indicated here. This is the smallest size to which the University Logo can be reduced without losing integrity or becoming illegible or distorted.

In digital media, further reduction may be necessary for specific purposes – please contact the Marketing Services team for advice.

Exclusion Zone

An exclusion zone reduces the amount of noise and distraction around the University Logo, enabling it to stand out. No type or image should intrude on the University Logo’s exclusion zone. The letter and size of the E can be taken as the measuring mechanism for areas around the University Logo. This maintains the integrity of the University Logo, and means that the exclusion zone enlarges and reduces in line with the enlargement or reduction in size of the University Logo.

Page Placement

All templates show the logo in the correct position, taking into account the minimum size and exclusion zone. Please do not alter the position of the logo.

The preferred placement for the University logo is top right or bottom right on any page. For more details please refer to the Page placement for print section of the communications toolkit.

If you are using the University logo in conjunction with other logos - for example, for a joint presentation with other universities - please contact the Marketing Services team for advice on placement.

Mistreatments

In order to maintain the integrity of the University Logo, please avoid the following mistreatments.

The logo is the combination of both the red graphical symbol and the ‘Lancaster University’ text. These elements should never be separated or adjusted in either size or relationship.

Please do not manipulate, distort, shorten or clip the red graphical symbol in any way. No other identities or sub-brands may be created using any part of the Lancaster University logo.

If you wish to use the University Logo to show a joint venture or collaboration with another organisation, please contact the Marketing Services team for advice.
