Typography
Consistent use of typography across different media helps to reinforce our visual personality.
The University logo typeface is Frutiger. This typeface is used in the University Logo only.
Three typefaces have been chosen to represent Lancaster University’s look and feel. These are Effra, Lexia and Activ Grotesk. These typefaces are for use by professional designers only and are to be used in all printed marketing materials and digital artwork.
These professional fonts are not available on all computers and so a number of Microsoft equivalents to these typefaces can be used internally.

Typefaces for internal use
Cambria and Calibri are the default Microsoft typefaces of choice.
- Header and sub-header typeface
- Cambria: Cambria, Cambria Italic, Cambria Bold
- Body copy typeface
- Calibri: Calibri, Calibri Italic, Calibri Bold

The only exception to the use of the approved typefaces is in digital media where Arial is used as the body copy typeface for clarity and accessibility purposes on the website.
