LOCAL BUDDHIST GROUPS MEETING IN LANCASTER AND DISTRICT

Each group / Centre in town welcomes newcomers and provides introductions to Buddhism and also gives meditation instruction.  Each tradition has in its own way adapted Buddhist teaching to Western cultural styles. By visiting the groups you will be able to assess whether they suit you and to see whether the style of practice there resonates for you.

LANCASTER CHENREZIG BUDDHIST CENTRE

Kadampa Buddhism is a Mahayana Buddhist school founded by the great Indian Buddhist Master Atisha (AD 982-1054). The Kadampa tradition was later promoted widely in Tibet by Je Tsongkhapa and his followers, who were known as the 'New Kadampas', and has spread to many countries in recent years.  Further information about the  style of practice is available at  http:// www.kadampa.org/

LANCASTER FWBO

The FWBO (Friends of the Western Buddhist Order) is a Buddhist movement founded in 1967 by Sangharakshita. It seeks to return to the basic principles of Buddhism and find ways of living them out in the context of the modern West. It seeks to be neither an importation of Buddhism to the West nor an adaptation of it; it seeks to be a re-expression of Buddhism in its new surroundings.  Further information about the style of practice is available at  http://www.fwbo.org/
