Hadrian's Wall: a social and cultural history
I am the cover picture H undreds of thousands of people visit Hadrian's Wall each year, a far cry from the situation in the nineteenth century when sites were owned by privileged individuals who could use them for their own research - and for the pleasure of themselves and their friends. This book is not 'yet another publication on Hadrian's wall'; it provides a social study of the changing patterns of interest in and access to this great monument. .

Alison Ewin is a lecturer at St Martin;s College, Lancaster. She has a long-standing interest in Hadrian's Wall and this is her first book on the subject .
