The last armed invasion of England began in the autumn of 1745
when the Jacobites marched through the northern counties. The march continued south in November, with
a return north the following month, amrked by the 'Battle of Clifton Moor' and the seige of Carlisle. Inevitably, the
seige was followed by a bloody aftermath in the months that followed . This volume is the first in-depth study of the invasion from a North-West perspective
, and it places the people of the region at centre stage.
The author, Jonathan Oates, has been interested in the Jacobite rebellions since his schooldays. He has had over 20 articles published on the subject.
