Lancaster University International Summer School
13 August to 11 September 2009
The Lancaster University International Summer School (LUISS) is designed to give students from other countries an introduction to British and European culture prior to beginning studies at Lancaster University or at any other UK or European university.
You will be based at Lancaster University, one of the leading UK universities, which is set in beautiful parkland two miles from the historic town of Lancaster in the North West of England. Lancaster has the best of all worlds: a historic, friendly town centre, within easy reach of some of the UK's most vibrant cities and close to the outstanding natural beauty of the Lake District.
The programmes have a strong and stimulating academic content. You will be part of a friendly student community and will gain insights into British and European life and culture through contact with British people, field trips and discussions with Lancaster University students. Each programme runs for four and a half weeks and you can opt to take any one of them. Students from each programme will undertake orientation together and share accommodation and facilities on campus.
LUISS is most suited to students who have completed at least one year of university study or equivalent in their own country. It is appropriate for students from other countries who are about to begin a period of study at a UK or European university, and for North American students coming to the UK or Europe to study as JYAs or for shorter periods.
The Summer School is worth four US upper division semester credits. It is ideally suited to North American students who wish to attend a term at a UK university (usually worth 12 credits) and need to gain the additional four credits needed to match a US semester (16 credits).
