Extra Buses at peak times

Stagecoach will be providing extra buses between campus and the city centre in the morning and evening peaks from next week to cope with the additional demand from staff with a further 106 staff on subsidised Staff Unirider bus passes this year and the return of students next week. Stagecoach will have staff on duty at the Chaplaincy Centre Bus Stop from next week throughout the term. If staff encounter any issues on the buses as the term commences please feedback this back to Philip Longton in Facilities (p.longton@lancaster.ac.uk) who is working in partnership with Stagecoach to deliver better bus services for the University.

Extra buses and bus stop improvements

The University is working closely in partnership with Stagecoach to deliver better bus services for its students, staff and visitors.

Stagecoach are now providing extra buses between campus and the city centre in the morning and evening peak periods to cope with the high demand for bus travel. Stagecoach have been monitoring passenger loadings throughout the first week of term and making adjustments where necessary, providing additional services. For example, there are a further 2 buses through Greaves and a further 2 buses through Bowerham before 9am on weekday mornings and an additional X1 bus. There are now 27 bus arrivals on campus from Lancaster between 08:00 and 09:00 Monday to Friday. Throughout the day during the week there are also two additional 3s every hour offering the most direct route into the city centre along the A6. There are now 18 buses every hour between campus and the city in each direction throughout the day. During the evening peak period there are also additional buses to help get people home.

Stagecoach will continue to have staff on duty at the Chaplaincy Centre Temporary Bus Stop throughout the term. Tickets can be purchased from them so you don't then need to get a ticket from the driver. Please be considerate to the elderly and infirm and give up your seat if you are seated on one of the 'priority seats' for these groups near the front of the bus.

Recent improvements to the Chaplaincy Centre Temporary Bus Stop have been made by Facilities to create more space for passengers waiting for buses.

Temporary Changes to Bus Services on Alexandra Park and South-West Drive due to roadworks

Due to roadworks closing access to Alexandra Park from the perimeter road there will be changes to bus services on Alexandra Park and South-West Drive on the following dates:

On the above dates services 3 and 4 will continue on the A6 to enter the campus at the Alexandra Park entrance off Hazelrigg Lane. They will stop at the Cartmel South bus stop at the bottom of Alexandra Park before proceeding to the Chaplaincy Centre via South-West Drive. There will be a new temporary bus stop on SW Drive (northbound) opposite the main entrance to the Management School until Monday 11th July. Therefore, during the above dates the following bus stops will be out of service (notices will be placed at these stops):

At all other times University bus services will operate as normal.

There will be two-way vehicle traffic on most of Alexandra Park Drive along the west side on the above dates to keep vehicle access open although there will be no vehicular access from the perimeter road to Alexandra Park.

Staff Travel Survey – March 2011

As part of our ongoing commitment to improving facilities for staff, visitors and students, in October 2010 the University introduced major changes to our travel and parking policies.

The changes introduced are intended to provide staff benefits that improve the quality, choice and value for money of different transport options to our site.  The changes support the University’s Strategic Plan and Environmental Policy to manage the environmental impacts of travel and enable the site to grow and function effectively without the negative consequences of excessive parking demand and congestion.

We are keen to understand how you feel about the new arrangements and are asking staff to participate in a survey to understand the travel patterns and views of staff following these changes.  Importantly, we want to identify what improvements you would like to see made to ensure we can offer you the most benefit. Your view is important, and all staff are encouraged to take part.

If you require any further information please contact Philip Longton in Facilities Operations.
