Research Committee: Small Grants Scheme
The University Research Committee provides funding every academic year to members of staff to fund small projects which will lead to further external funding applications and publications for the University, increasing its RAE rating and supporting the career development of early-career staff.
There is usually one call per academic year. Any future calls will be announced here and to all Heads of Department. The call for 2011/2012 can be accessed via the following link:-
If your small grant aplication is successful, you will receive an offer letter from the Research Committee - please read this letter carefully as it sets out the conditions of the award. A code will be set up and you can charge expenses against this.
Conditions of the award:
- Any underspend will be reclaimed by the Committee to plough back into the Small Grant scheme.
- The Committee must approve in advance any major variation on expenditure heads within the agreed budget
- A report should be submitted to the RSO within one month of the end of the grant. This should be one A4 page only and should include details of bids submitted as a result of the SGS funding and a list of outputs produced. Future applications to the Small Grants Scheme will not be successful if a report has not been provided for a previous small grant.
- Acknowledgement of the contribution made by the Research Committee in any future publications arising from its initial investment
Applying for an extension
If you wish to apply for an extension to your small grant, please email rso-submissions@lancaster.ac.uk explaining why the extension is necessary and how long you require the extension for. This request will then be considered by the Research Committee and the RSO will let you know if this is successful or not.
Final report requirements
The requirements for a final report are detailed in the Small Grant Award Letter which you would have received if your application was successful. Final reports are due one month after the end date of the grant, and should be emailed to the Research Support Office. This should be one A4 page only and should include details of bids submitted as a result of the SGS funding and a list of outputs produced. All final reports are presented to the Research Committee, which meets once per term.
