Fire Drills
The Fire Drills are held during the first week of the new Academic year.
It is a legal requirement under the Fire Safety Order 2005 that the University carries out at least one monitored fire evacuation drill per year.
The purpose of the drill is:- To acquaint everyone with the nature of the alarm
- To make everyone aware of the necessity of evacuating the building when the fire alarm is sounded
- To bring attention to the necessity of making oneself familiar with the alternative means of escape from buildings and the routine to be followed in case of fire. Notices setting out this routine are displayed adjacent to the break glass fire alarm points in the building
- To draw attention to the importance of going to the assembly point, allowing a check to be made that the building has been evacuated and enabling the Fire Service to deal with the fire without the delay of searching for persons still to be accounted for.
