Procedure for the Disposal of Clinical Waste
The procedure meets the requirements for the University to comply with the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and the Hazardous Waste Regulations 2005 in order to ensure that infectious and hazardous waste is disposed of safely.
Waste to be dealt with as clinical waste is defined and procedures for its containment, storage and segregation from other waste is described.
Duties and Responsibilities
Head of Department
- to ensure that arrangements are in place for assessing the categories of clinical waste
- to ensure that the correct facilities such as containers, spill kits and storage are available
- to make any necessary arrangements for training
- to arrange for payment of the cost of disposal of clinical waste which arises as a result of research which is grant funded
Safety Office
- to pay for the cost of disposal of clinical waste other than that which arises as a result of research which is grant funded
Head of Biological and Life Sciences
- to ensure that the consignment notes for the disposal of clinical waste are completed and copies sent to the Safety Office.
