Electricity at Work
Guidance on Electricity at Work Regulations 1989
Safe procedures must be established for the installation and repair of electrical services, the design, construction and use of electrical equipment and systems, work in electrical teaching laboratories, and the maintenance and repair of electrical equipment. Checklists covering electrical systems and systems of work are given as an aid to ensuring successful compliance with the Regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities
Head of Department
- to ensure that there is a competent person able to interpret the practical requirements of the Regulations and the Memorandum of Guidance in those teaching departments involved in the above activities
Director of Facilities
- to ensure that there are arrangements in force for the testing and inspection and safe operation of equipment and installations to ensure their safe operation
The User
- to carry out visual inspections of their portable electrical appliances at appropriate intervals
- not to use portable electrical appliances after the date on the plug
