MANUAL OF SAFETY

Introduction

The Manual of Safety is part of the University's Statement of Safety Policy which is required by the Health and Safety at Work Act and is intended to give detailed advice to employees of the University. A copy of the Statement of Safety Policy has been given to all employees of the University. Copies of the Manual of Safety are held by Heads of academic, administrative and service departments as defined in paragraph 3 of the introduction to the Statement of Safety Policy. All Area Safety Officers and Departmental Radiation Officers also hold a copy of the Manual of Safety.

Some sections of the Manual of Safety are relevant to most areas of the University and are included in all copies of the Manual of Safety.

Other sections are only relevant to limited areas of the University. Consequently these sections are only included in copies of the Manual of Safety held in these areas. If anyone would like copies of these sections they may be obtained from the Safety Office. These sections are identified in the index by the symbol * .

The first section in the Manual of Safety is a brief summary of each of the main sections. The summary is intended to enable the reader to determine whether the full section is relevant and therefore should be consulted.
