ABSTRACT

Kazuko Hohki was born in Japan and came to England in 1978. She is a founder member of the pop performance group Frank Chickens which had a independent chart hit with "We Are Ninya", released 5 albums and toured worldwide. Kazuko has made a trilogy of solo performances based on her experience as a Japanese woman in the UK: 'Toothless' , 'The Shining Princess' and 'My Husband Is A Spaceman' with which she has toured UK and worldwide. Her new installation-based show - 'Evidence For The Existence Of Borrowers' (www.borrowersreunited.com) - has won a Total Theatre award and a Herald Angel award at the 2005 in Edinburgh Festival. She is currently developing a new show, 'Wuthering Heights' , with Colin Carmichael from the theatre group Brian. Kazuko has just received a commission to produce a new site specific piece 'Oh Doh' based around Kings Road from Chelsea Theatre for their Sacred season in January 2007. Her first radio drama 'S' was broadcast on BBC Radio 3 in 2005 and 2006 and Kazuko is part of the Young Vic 'Genesis directors project'. She has directed 'Men Band' by Brian in 2004 and the site-specific piece 'Last Carnival' by Young People's Theatre at Battersea Arts Centre in 2005. Has just completed Live & Direct at Contact in Manchester which is a bursary course for Black and Asian emerging directors. She is Associate Artist at Battersea Arts Centre and artistic patron for Arts Depot. |
