About Dialogue North West

Who we are

Linking research and practice has always been at the centre of Lancaster's literacy work and Dialogue North West, originally the North West Skills for Life Research Forum, was set up in February 2003 as part of this. The forum is the first regional research forum in the country and as such presents an exciting opportunity to develop research, practice and theory in adult literacy, numeracy and language. The Lancaster Literacy Research Centre was a founder member of the group whose members range from large organisation such as NIACE to individuals interested in literacy, language and numeracy research and practice in the North West.

In the year 2003/2004, the forum held regular seminars for discussion, information and debate which covered a range of topics from ESOL to issues within Criminal Justice Settings. During 2005 it was decided to give Dialogue North West some permanence within the LLRC at Lancaster University.
