New Energy Centre

Energy Centre

The existing boiler house is being refurbished to create a new energy centre to accommodate high efficiency gas boilers, a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) unit, cold water storage and associated ancillaries. The building management systems and control will also be upgraded. The CHP will provide approximately 20% of the University’s electricity requirements. Completion January 2012.

Wind Turbine Project

Wind Turbine Project

Construction of a 2.3MW Wind Turbine on the Hazelrigg Site during 2012 which will significantly reduce the University’s carbon emissions. Planning permission has been granted and work is expected to start on site early 2012 with completion by the end of the year. For the latest news on the Wind Turbine Project visit the Press Office.

HV Infrastructure

HV Infrastructure

A project to increase the electricity capacity to the University campus. New cables have been laid from the substation along Green Lane, in front of the hotel towards Alexandra Park Drive.

County South Kitchen Refurbishment

County South Kitchen

Extension and refurbishment of the kitchen facilities in County South to improve the food and drink offering. The project will be complete by the end of January 2012.

Furness Refurbishment

Furness Refurbishment

A refurbishment of the Furness College building to provide office space for the faculty of Health and Medicine . The refurbishment project will also incorporate the bar, all college space (offices, TV room , JCR & flats) and landscaping. The project does not include any commercial space in Furness.

Underpass Refurbishment

Underpass Refurbishment

Following the rejuvenation of Alexandra Square the underpass is being refurbished to provide a safe and welcoming transport link to the University. The project is due to be completed by summer 2012 when the underpass will be reopened.

The LA1 Show - Underpass Investigation

A recent feature on LA1 TV, the University's own Students Union TV Station profiled the ongoing work on the Underpass and highlighted some of the issues surrounding the project.
