She explained to the participants that she runs a design studio based in London and Milan called Tinker.it!. Deschamps-Sonsino described Tinker.it! as a firm oriented on making interactive products, spaces and events that link the digital to the physical. She stated that she started this company with a man called Massimo Banzi. While a student at IDII in an interaction design program in Italy, Massimo Banzi developed a product called Arduino. Deschamps-Sonsino proceeded to explain that Arduino and following its creations will be the topic of her presentation.

http://www.lancs.ac.uk/experimentality/blog/workshop-4-alexandra-deschamps-sonsino-creativity-outside-boxes#comments autonomous development collaborative design media science technology workshop 4 Thu, 04 Mar 2010 17:23:03 +0000 Diana 272 at http://www.lancs.ac.uk/experimentality Workshop 2: Wolfgang Ernst, Experimenting media-temporality (Pythagoras, Hertz, Turing) http://www.lancs.ac.uk/experimentality/blog/workshop-2-wolfgang-ernst-experimenting-media-temporality-pythagoras-hertz-turing
Professor of media theories Wolfgang Ernst (Humboldt University) opened his presentation by stating that the subject of this workshop, ‘experimentality as event’, touches a crucial figure of contemporary epistemology, especially when we take epistemology in its processual, time-based meaning as defines by cybernetics which is – taken by its original self-definition – the insight into ‘Circular Causal and Feedback Mechanisms’ (Heinz von Foerster, 1949). Consequently, Ernst proposed that we investigate the processuality and eventuality of media-enhanced experimentation.

http://www.lancs.ac.uk/experimentality/blog/workshop-2-wolfgang-ernst-experimenting-media-temporality-pythagoras-hertz-turing#comments media media archaeology media theory science temporality workshop 2 Fri, 29 Jan 2010 15:27:05 +0000 Diana 216 at http://www.lancs.ac.uk/experimentality Rod dickinson http://www.lancs.ac.uk/experimentality/profile/rod-dickinson

Name

Rod dickinson

http://www.lancs.ac.uk/experimentality/profile/rod-dickinson#comments art bomb plot control feedback media milgram rod dickinson social psychology Thu, 17 Dec 2009 11:38:28 +0000 rod 192 at http://www.lancs.ac.uk/experimentality International Conference - The Experimental Society http://www.lancs.ac.uk/experimentality/event/international-conference-experimental-society

7 July, 2010 - 9 July, 2010, Lancaster University

Keywords:

science / politics / economy / publics / religion / music / art
education / design / media / advertising / technology
laboratory / simulating / making / performing / testing / trial
democracy / reflexivity / creativity / event / revolution

The idea of experimentation was at the heart of modernity’s promise of human freedom and self-determination. But is the experiment now too complicit with power to act as a carrier of hope? To close the year-long Experimentality programme, which involved collaborations with the University of Manchester, the Royal Society, FutureEverything and a range of academic and art organisations, participants at this international conference debated different visions of an experimental society in which the emancipatory potential of the experiment could be renewed.

Plenary speakers:

David Byrne (University of Durham)

Dieter Daniels (Academy of Visual Arts, Leipzig)

Bülent Diken (Lancaster University)

Josephine Green (Social Innovation, Philips Design)

Stephanie Koerner (University of Manchester)

Michael Krätke (Lancaster University)

Scott Lash (Goldsmiths, University of London)

John Milbank (University of Nottingham)

Helga Nowotny (European Research Council)

James Wilsdon (Royal Society)

Brian Wynne (Lancaster University)

http://www.lancs.ac.uk/experimentality/event/international-conference-experimental-society#comments advertising art conference creativity design economy education experiment laboratory media music politics publics reflexivity religion revolution science technology Tue, 29 Sep 2009 07:56:23 +0000 Experimentality 34 at http://www.lancs.ac.uk/experimentality
