Engineering One building remedial works, Saturday 23 March to Sunday 7 April

Students in the Engineering One building.

A project of remedial works to the Engineering One building will take place from Monday 25 March until Friday 5 April (inclusive). In advance of this, scaffolding and other safety measures for work at height will be installed in the interior of the building from Saturday 23 March until Sunday 7 April.

The building will be closed for access while scaffolding is erected on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 March, and while scaffolding is dismantled on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 April.

Eight parking bays on Farrer Avenue will be reserved for delivery and loading purposes from Friday 22 April. The building will also be closed on Wednesday 3 April during crane lift activities.

The works are being undertaken to address key remedial issues in the building, including investigations into suspected roof leaks. Inspections of fire stopping measures within the building’s risers will also take place. Once the internal scaffolding is in place, access to the upper floors of the building will be maintained by the central staircase.

A crane lift will be in place on Farrer Avenue on Wednesday 3 April to replace failed glazed rooflights. This will require closure of Farrer Avenue both on Tuesday 2 and Wednesday 3 April, including all traffic access and parking during these days. This closure has been aligned with wider University closure dates to minimise potential disruption. The fire appliance turning circle will be kept clear during the works.

Alternative parking facilities, including accessible parking facilities, are available on South Drive and Gillow Avenue.
