University House lift replacement - 7 May to late June 2024

University House

The University House lift will be closed from Tuesday 7 May until late June as a lift replacement project is undertaken.

This work is being undertaken as part of a project to improve some of the older and less reliable lifts on campus. The current University House lift car is not compliant with legislation, making it difficult for some people to use without assistance. The new lift car will be larger than the existing one, with control buttons installed at a compliant height, improving accessibility to the upper floors of University House. It will also be more energy efficient, reliable, and usable for all passengers, including cleaning, portering and catering staff.

This is the only lift in the building, and it will be completely out of use from the week commencing 29 April until the week commencing 3 June 2024 (inclusive). This will mean that anyone who is dependent on the lift to access the upper floors of University House will be unable to access B, C and D floors during this period.

There will also be restrictions on catering, cleaning and portering services available to offices and meeting rooms. Meeting rooms on B, and C and D floors will still be available to use, however they will not appear under the ‘Accessible’ filter on the Room Bookings system. The works will cause some localised noise disruption around the lift shaft on all floors during the initial stages of the project.

Please work with your line manager to organise alternative working arrangement if you feel that you may be impacted by the temporary loss of the lift in University House. All stairwells in the building will remain in use as normal, and the main stairwell will not be impacted by the works.

We apologise for any disruption caused while this important work is undertaken. Please contact facilitiescommunication@lancaster.ac.uk for more information or to discuss any issues which may arise from this project.
