Alexandra Square (Shops and Banks)
Alexandra Square is named after the University’s first Chancellor, Princess Alexandra. The architects of the university were keen to encourage intermingling through the design of the Square. The square includes University House to the west, Bowland College to the north, shops and banks to the south-east and the library to the south-west. Barkers House Farm

Barkers House Farm
Barkers House Farm is a listed farmhouse in the heart of Alexandra Park. The two-story barn originally had a courtyard and milking shed before it was transformed in 2004 into an innovative social and learning space for students. It now has a food hall, bar, study area, common room and multi purpose function room. The farmhouse itself houses a study and computer space for Cartmel College’s 600 students along with a bar and Junior Common room (JCR). It was formally opened by HRH Princess Alexandra in early December 2004.

Bowland Hall has 622 bedrooms, most of it has been refurbished in recent years. The sociable kitchens are shared between 16-26 people. The 276 en-suite rooms are on the college's northern edge, where flats of 4 make up Bowland Hall, and southern edge in Slaidburn House, which groups 8 to each kitchen.

The unusual shape of the Chaplaincy Centre makes it an extremely eye-catching addition to the university. It dominates the skyline and has become the main university logo. The Chaplaincy Centre was dedicated on May 2nd 1969 "for the worship of God and the service of man, for refreshment and informal meeting, for acquiring fresh knowledge, and a place where counsel and help could be given" (Act of Dedication).

The design County Eco-residences was inspired by research and development work into offsite manufactured, low-cost sustainable social housing undertaken by Dr Avi Friedman, Professor of Architecture and Director of the Affordable Housing Programme at McGill University, Montreal, Canada. A bespoke design solution was subsequently developed by architects Goddard Wybor Practice, with detailed input from University interested parties. The residences were built in 2008 and have been configured as 4-storey townhouses providing semi-independent, un-serviced accommodation for 12 students with a large shared kitchen/dining/lounge space on the ground floor level, or as serviced cluster flats on one floor, comprising en-suite accommodation for 6 students and a shared kitchen/dining/lounge area. The County scheme comprises 29 townhouses, with 4 configured to provide 7 family flats, 1 DDA flat and 16 bedsits.

Now part of HMV Group, Waterstone's first opened in Old Brompton Road, London, in 1982 and currently trades from more than 300 stores, on high streets and in shopping centres, and through numerous university campuses in the UK, Republic of Ireland and continental Europe (Brussels and Amsterdam) as well as on the Isle of Man, Jersey and the Isle of Wight.
