Summary of Staff Research Interests 
Broadhurst, Karen Research interests. I am currently involved in a series of socio-legal studies examining the interface between welfare and the law. I have previously undertaken a number of organisational studies funded by government agencies, research councils and independent organisations. My work has examined the effectiveness of decision-making in public services as well as the the ethos and delivery of family support. I am particularly interested in 'practice near research' with a preference for ethnographic and qualitative methods. I have a particular interest in micro-analytic methods of discourse and conversation analysis. The New Interaction Order (NIO) in public/semi-public spaces Morgan, Hannah My research interests lie predominantly in the field of disability studies and include the self-organisation and citizenship of disabled people; service provision for adult service users; disability policy at a UK and European level; and mobility and social capital in relation to (disabled) careers. Penna, Sue 1. Social theoretical accounts of social change. I have been interested in developing social theoretical accounts of policy issues, and most of my work has concentrated on situating welfare and criminal justice policy within social theoretical problematics of historical and contemporary social change. 2. Policy as a technology of governance, with particular reference to the connections between policy areas in the European Union and other sites of multilevel governance. 3. Transnational organised crime : a) the relationship between, and apparently mutual dependence of, legal and illegal markets and legal and illegal forms of authority; b)environmental crime, with reference to the disposal of hazardous wastes. 4. Organised crime, terrorism and the production of discourses and sites of (in)security. 5. Electronic databases and debates around the 'surveillant assemblage'. Piggott, Linda I have undertaken a broad range of applied social research within the areas of disability, with specific regard to employment, teaching and learning in Higher Education, and widening participation in education Sapey, Bob Most of my research has been concerned with the relationship between social workers and disabled people in the provision of support services. I have also studied the use of technology within social work and the impact this has on practice. Finally, to complete this triangle of interest, I have examined the impact on technology on the social construction of disability.
