Links to the World Wide Web
There are two main ways of getting started - search engines and gateways
Search EnginesSearch engines are provided by a number of companies and they can search web sites or pages throughout the world according to the terms that you give them. For example, if you were interested in finding information on elder abuse, you would put these words into the search box and probably receive tens or hundreds of web addresses which have some relationship to those terms. The advantage of this is the sheer volume of links that you can get, but on the other hand many of these may not be as relevant to your studies as you might wish and many will be of dubious academic value. GatewaysGateways are provided in order to try and direct you to sites that are considered of value in a particular area of business or study. There are several gateways for the social sciences and social work which often prove to be more useful and less time-consuming than do search engines. Some gateways that are useful are:
