The future of social work and social work learning: A visioning event

Date: 29 March 2012 Time: 10.00-4.30

Venue: Management School

Based on a Future Search style approach, the day will see 80 participants, representing stakeholder groups in the region working together to build a 'vision' for social work. Participants include Executive Directors for Adult and Children's services, strategic leads, workforce development staff, social work practitioners, service users and carers and social work educators. The event is the culmination of aproject that focuses on the future of social work in the region. The project brings together regional stakeholders to discuss how together, they can respond to the challenges, changes and opportunities currently facing the social work profession.

Whilst undoubtedly the current economic climate and cuts to funding present significant challenges, the recommendations that have come from the Reform Board, The Munro Review of Child Protection, together with the establishment of The College of Social Work, offer new opportunities to build and revitalise the social work profession. The Department of Applied Social Science has developed theVisioning Projectas an opportunity for stakeholders in the region to think carefully about the future of social work and social work learning and how Lancaster University can best contribute to building a strong and vibrant social work profession.
