This programme offers postgraduate study in criminological research with the aim of preparing students for careers as researchers (for example, in the Home Office, Probation Service, social services, other government departments or voluntary organisations) or for undertaking a PhD in criminological or criminal justice research.
The programme will provide students with a range of skills to undertake and critically evaluate criminological research as well as a range of transferable skills to enhance students' employability.
It will also introduce students to a set of theoretical resources relevant to the study of crime, criminal justice and crime policy that informs decisions about the design of research and provides critical analytical perspectives on applied research in the field.
Admissions selection criteria
The programme will admit British and international applicants who normally hold at least an upper second class single or joint honours degree in criminology or criminal justice, or a minor in criminology or criminal justice, from an approved university or have equivalent status. Graduates from related disciplines in which there is a substantial element of criminology or criminal justice in their degree, will also be considered. Candidates holding other academic qualifications including relevant professional qualifications may also be considered for admission subject to interview. Individual exceptions may be considered in the normal admission process.
