Remembering Günter Grass: German Studies Association of America, 1-4 Oct 2015

DELC’s Senior Lecturer in German, Rebecca Braun, will contribute to a round-table with world-leading subject specialists assessing the legacy of Günter Grass (1927-2015), Nobel laureate in literature in 1999. The event on 2 October is part of the annual convention of the German Studies Association of America, which is being held in Washington D.C. this year. Over 1000 delegates are expected in Washington D.C. over the four days of the conference, and a series of events commemorating Germany’s greatest contemporary writer have been given particular prominence in this year’s programme. Rebecca’s work on Günter Grass goes back to her doctoral study, undertaken at Oxford University 2001-05, on notions of authorship across his literary and political oeuvre. She has since published widely in leading academic books, journals and newspapers about the writer, as well as speaking on Australian national radio on the occasion of his death last April. She was delighted to accept the GSA president’s invitation to contribute to GSA’s special round table.
