CeDR/IOELC Seminar: Advance Care Planning and Palliative Care for Disabled PeopleDate: 7 July 2010 Time: 10.00 am - 12.00 noon Venue: Bowland North, Seminar Room 10 The Centre for Disability Research (CeDR) and the International Observatory on End of Life Care (IOELC) invite you to a seminar by Dr. Gary L. Stein, JD, MSW, Associate Professor from Yeshiva University, New York, NY. Dr. Stein, visiting as a Fulbright Senior Specialist, will give the seminar talk. Professor Carol Thomas from CeDR and Dr Iris Cohen Fineberg from the IOELC will comment following Dr. Stein's presentation. There will be time for discussion and meeting Dr. Stein following the formal presentation. Refreshments will be served. Dr. Stein has been an Associate Professor at the Wurzweiler School of Social Work - Yeshiva University in New York since 2006, where he teaches social policy, health care, and ethics in the master's and doctoral programs. His interests include bioethics, palliative care, health policy, social policy, disabilities, elder care, and the gay and lesbian community. Dr. Stein is a 2010 recipient of the Fulbright Specialist Award and the Soros Foundation's Social Work Leadership Development Award. Recently, he was a consultant on disabilities issues for the RAND Corporation. He has received major grants from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Soros Foundation, the Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey, and the State of New Jersey. Prior to joining Yeshiva University, Dr. Stein was Executive Director of New Jersey Health Decisions, where he developed major projects on bioethics, palliative care, and advance care planning. His was also Project Director for the New York Academy of Medicine, the Citizens Commission on AIDS, and The Orphan Project, and was staff attorney for the New Jersey Department of the Public Advocate. Dr. Stein was an Adjunct Professor for Kean University, Seton Hall University School of Graduate Medical Education, and Drew University.
Dr. Stein received his J.D. from New York Law School (cum laude), his M.S.W. from Rutgers University Graduate School of Social Work, and A.B. from Rutgers College. He has a Certificate in Bioethics and the Medical Humanities from the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeon/Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Contact: Who can attend: Anyone
