Research Interests / specialist areas: User Led Organisations, Disabled People's Organisations and Centres of Independent Living Transformation of social care, independent living, personalisation, individual budgets, person centred approaches. Disablist Hate Crime Inclusive design, built environment, housing design and links with independent living. Disability as an equality issue The social model of disability. Current and recent consultancy project's areas> Advisory role in accessibility of public buildings and services in Manchester Supporting the development of Centres of Independent Living Work force and strategic development on the transformation of social care / personalisation. Involving disabled people in the design of stops for Greater Manchester's Light Transit system. Disablist Hate Crime Developing a protocol between disabled people organisations and carers organisations Consultancies: Manchester City Council Associate of Breakthrough UK Associate of North West Training and Development Team Current and recent activities: Member of the Editorial Board of the international journal Disability and Society - http://www.tandf.co.uk/journals/carfax/09687599.html, and has published widely in the field. 2007 - present - Organising Committee and Reviewing Committee, Centre for Disability Studies 2008 and 2012 International Disability Studies Conference. Lancaster University 2005-present-Breakthrough UK Policy Think Tank, comprising disabled academics and practitioners in the field of disability, responds to government consultations from a social model of disability perspective.
