We are pleased to announce the following free workshop day with Dr. Ghassan
Hage (Department of Anthropology, University of Sydney) on Wednesday 28
September 2005.
Dr. Hage will be visiting Lancaster in September to participate in the Mobilising Hospitality workshop being sponsored by CeMoRe and IAS. Following the workshop, Dr. Hage has agreed to conduct this informal workshop to respond to work-in-progress by University postgrads and staff.
Ghassan Hage is a reputed anthropologist, whose work on multiculturalism, 'white' nation, migration, 'home-building', hope, and the struggle to make oneself morally 'at home', has been widely acclaimed (see references below).
The workshop will give participants the opportunity to briefly present their work and get feedback from our visiting professor. These events are an excellent opportunity to present your work to an internationally recognised researcher, as well as to your peers from within and without your own department.
Workshop participants will be requested to submit a short paragraph summarising your research, project, and/or a theoretical or methodological ‘problem’ that you are working on, if relevant. For example, you may like to seek feedback on a chapter or idea you are working on, or feedback on the overall research project if you are at an earlier stage. These brief written submissions will be required no later than Friday 2 September 2005 so that they can be circulated to Dr. Hage, who is hearing impaired, prior to the event. Seminars will then involve short presentations of no more than 5-10 minutes, followed by responses from Dr. Hage and discussion with the group.
We invite you to join us. The event is *free of charge* for all participants, however registration is required as spaces are limited. Please register before 31 July 2005.
