Dr Victoria MasonVictoria Mason worked in Centre for Mobilities Research (CeMoRe) until January 2011.

She is part of the Richardson Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution and is involved with the International State Crime Initiative (http://statecrime.org/) run by Kings College London, Harvard and Hull Universities. Victoria convened Lancaster University's interdisciplinary 'Greater Middle East and Islamic Studies' Network and is a member of the University's 'Human Right Forum', 'Migrancy Research Group', 'Centre for Gender and Women's Studies' and the 'Centre for Mobilities Research' (CeMoRe). Victoria joined the department in late 2007 after previously teaching in a range of subjects at Victoria University in New Zealand and Melbourne and Curtin Universities in Australia. In 2008 she received her PhD from Curtin University in Australia on the consequences of the 1990-91 Gulf conflict for Palestinians in Kuwait. Her broad research areas are the Politics and International Relations of the Middle East and the Politics of Human Rights. In terms of the Middle East, she focuses on the Palestinian question, conflict and conflict resolution in the Middle East (particularly Israel-Palestine and Iraq), and issues relating to refugees and minorities. Her wider human rights research includes projects on state violence, the treatment of refugees, and issues of Islamophobia and anti-Arab discrimination in the West. Victoria is regularly asked to peer review books and articles and has presented her work at major international conferences, including: the International Studies Association, the Middle East Studies Association of North America, the World Congress for Middle East Studies and the British Society for Middle East Studies. She is a Board Member of the Journal Africana: A Journal of Ideas on Africa and the African Diaspora, based at Boston University's African Studies Center: http://www.africanajournal.org/index.html Her current research projects include: The Palestinian Question: *A project on Economic, Social and Cultural rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. In 2009 Victoria received a grant from the British Academy for this project. *Ongoing projects on Palestinian exile. Victoria is currently completing a book manuscript on the politics of the Palestinian exilic diaspora. *Ongoing projects on the Palestinian question and resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Iraq: *A project on the Iraqi refugee crisis created by the 2003 war, with a particular focus on the impact of the conflict on the social capital of Iraqi refugees. In 2009 Victoria was awarded a Research and Enterprise, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (Lancaster University) grant towards this research. *Examining the impact of the 2003 Iraq war on the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. In 2007 Victoria was awarded a Research and Enterprise, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (Lancaster University) grant towards this research. *In collaboration with Kynan Gentry, research on cultural destruction as a mechanism of political domination - focusing on the case-study of Iraq. Human Rights: *Investigating state violence and human rights - particularly the use of terror by states. *A number of ongoing projects relating to Islamophobia, anti-Arab discrimination and hate-crime in the West. Potential Doctoral ProposalsVictoria is interested in supervising PhDs in Middle East politics and international relations. She is also interested in projects relating to human rights.
