New Undergraduate Pathway in Gender and Women's Studies

From September 2012, the undergraduate students (MCS or Sociology Majors) who have taken the part 1 in Gender and Women's Studies, will be able to continue with Gender and Women's Studies in their second and third years in the Department.
At the end of GWS 101 you identify that you would like to follow the GWS pathway as either a Sociology or Media majors (you need to tell this to the part 1 Director of CGWS Vicky Singleton and to Karen Gammon in the office).
Design of the Pathway
As Sociology majors, the GWS cohort would be required to take the Sociology core courses:
SOC200 Understanding Social Thought (Compulsory)
SOC201 Research Skills and Techniques (half unit) (Compulsory)
SOC202 Sociologial Research Methods
SOC 360 Doing Sociological Research
However, you will be put into a distinct dissertation group in 360- this group would be led by a member of CGWS affiliated staff.
In addition you will take:
SOC208 Gender, Sexuality and Society
SOC314 Feminism and Social Change
As Media and Cultural Studies majors, the GWS cohort would be required to take the MCS core courses:
MCS.200 Media and Cultural Studies
MCS.201/202 Media and Cultural Studies Research Methods
And MCS 360 (here you will join the SOC360 GWS cohort - forming a joint GWS dissertation group.
In addition they would also take:
SOC208 Gender, Sexuality and Society
SOC314 Feminism and Social Change
We will be compiling a handbook explaining the pathway, and will also tell you about in on CGWS 101, but if you have any questions please ask Vicky Singleton or Celia Roberts.
