Our ApproachHere@Lancaster's research is multidisciplinary and we explore methodologies and research designs that are relevant to our different research and evaluation projects. However, much of our work is informed by social practice theory which shapes our understanding of the social world and the role and nature of higher education within it. Our evaluative work is similarly informed and tends to be in the tradition of utilisation-focused evaluation. We frequently create evaluative designs which are theory-based and adopt an approach designed to apprehend the full scope of the implementation trajectory. Members of here@lancaster have published in the area of social practice-based approaches to evaluation design, and their approach is becoming a dominant one across the sector. Our research draws across several areas of expertise, including evaluation, disciplinary differences, policy implementation, learning and teaching in higher education, discourse and literacies, the management of change, and research as an activity. We often work with others beyond our own department, across the university (for example in the management school) as well as in departments in other universities in the UK and abroad. |
