Main Activities

Our main activities include:

  • Research: including qualitative and quantitative studies; small and large scale projects; participatory research; linking research and practice (for example working with practitioners, students etc. to develop their own research skills); policy-related research; collaborative links with researchers in a number of countries including Australia, Canada, Chile, China, the European Union, Jordan, Kenya, Nigeria, Russia, South Africa, the United States.
  • Evaluation: including formative and summative evaluations; international, national and local projects; working with organisations to develop self-evaluation skills and building their capacity; policy-related evaluation and evaluation of specific initiatives and concerns
  • Consultancy: including advice on vocational education and training strategies, on a wide range of learning delivery methods and on evaluation and quality issues
  • Conferences: including organising conferences on themes related to here@Lancaster's main areas of work; contributing keynotes on our current research to international, national and regional conferences. We are centrally involved with the Higher Education Close Up conference, a biennial conference devoted to find-grained research into higher education
  • Workshops: in both the Business & Education Sectors on a wide variety of topics, including Staff Development, Planning, Evaluation, Quality Assurance, Developing Performance Indicators, Adult Learning
  • Masterclasses: we offer these on a range of topics for groups of staff in universities and beyond
  • Teaching: we integrate aspects of our research work into our undergraduate teaching and postgraduate supervision. We offer a dedicated taught doctoral programmes.for professionals, offering four years part-time study leading to a PhD.
