Our Approach

Our research is multidisciplinary and we explore methodologies and designs that are pertinent to our different Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) topics. As part of this, we look into the ways in which the emergence of TEL changes the ways in which research can be conducted in multidisciplinary and multi-professional contexts. We explore new research tools emerging as part of e-research approaches.

Overall, staff research aspects of TEL bringing together expertise from a variety of perspectives: sociological, psychological, social, socio-cultural, cognitive, literacy, developmental, individual differences, transitional (both personally and in terms of the technologies), digital identity, teaching and technology philosophies-in-practice, the nature of technological affordances, and in terms of the changing contexts of connectivity.

Our research draws across these areas of expertise, and our outcomes are illuminated by the involvement of staff members who can bring a depth of different perspectives. We often work with others beyond our own department, across the university - in Computing and Communications, the Management School, the Literacy Research Centre, and the Faculty of Health and Medicine - as well as in departments in other universities in the UK and abroad.
