Pilot Study of Use of Technologies for Educational Purposes at an NHS Trust

«Back

Summary: This study undertakes an environmental scan of current practices in the use of technology for educational purposes at an NHS Trust. The purpose of this pilot study is to gather and analyze data to answer the following questiions: (1) Where are we now? (2) Where could be go? and (3) How prepared are we to engage? We see this project as a large scale educational improvement initiative in the field of TEL aiming to support improved and co-ordinated access to a wide range of TEL resources in medical and non-medical education and extend related activities at the NHS Trust (Preston and Chorley) as part of a broader vision shared with LU. Our vision of this initiative is that it will enrich and enhance medical and non-medical staff experiences of work-place TEL and improve the efficiency and quality of teaching and research in the Trust. Building upon earlier work (Zenios et al., 2004) we are following an approach that allows to surface implicit theories of learning and change i.e. partially articulated theories of how learning occurs at workplace, how staff can make use of existing resources and what needs to be done to make these recourses accessible and useful in the NHS context.
