Seminar Series - Desperately seeking independence. Some implications of student experience of the transition into Lancaster University for an understanding of motivational goal structures.Date: 8 June 2011 Time: 12.30 - 2.00 p.m. Venue: FASS MR1 (formerly IAS Building) Professor Colin Rogers, Department of Educational Research, Lancaster University. Desperately seeking independence. Some implications of student experience of the transition into Lancaster University for an understanding of motivational goal structures. This arises from a project I have been leading in my Associate Dean role concerning the experience of students joining Lancaster and their assessment of the support they receive from the University. There will be some discussion of the "findings", although this work should not be construed as a full-blown research project, together with some discussion of the limited ways in which some aspect of present goal theory can help explain what seems to be happening. Some suggestions for future research will be put forward. Discussions with those who have a background of interest in either UG engagement with HE and/or motivational process would be highly welcome.
