Thesis Working TitleExploring the barriers to Inclusive Education for boys with visual disabilities in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Research InterestsIn 2007, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is among the countries that agreed to follow the obligations of the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Persons with Disabilities. Article 24 requires governments agreeing with the convention to provide an inclusive education for students with disabilities. I am intrested on people attitude towards inclusion for students with visual disabilities and how the model of disabilty shap such attitude. I am using the models of disability developed within another country and context (the U.K.) and trying to identify if they are useful / helpful in explaining the attitudes and views of people within Saudi Arabia. In other words do the models offer a useful framework for discussing and describing things in Saudi Arabia or is there something else needed? The aim of my research is to explore the attitudenal barriers and physical and environmental barriers that face inclusive education in Saudi Arabia for students with visual disabilities in diffrent public education (Elementry-Intermediate- Secondary) in western part of Saudi Arabia. My research can contribute to assist the implemention of the article 24 of the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Persons with Disabilities (United Nations, 2006) in Saudi Arabia through informing the policy of inclusion for students with visual disability regarding the barriers and how can be reduced in the future and also my research can go further than the previous studies that addressed the attitude towards inclusion only; in terms of using the individual and the social model of disability in exploring these attitudes in depth.
