Current Teaching

Don currently teaches on the MA in Education programme (in modules EDS 801 and EDS 813)

Research Interests

His work has focused on three main areas:

  • Teaching and learning outcomes arising from uses of leading edge technologies.
  • How home and out-of-school practices can enhance and support learning at an individual pupil level.
  • How evaluation and research can be undertaken to support policy and practice.

He has undertaken studies for the DfES, government agencies, commercial and non-commercial groups, educational institutions and schools to inform both policy and practice.

Current research and writing includes:

  • Preparation of a series of articles focusing on 'Technology Enhancing Learning', detailing evidence from a range of recent studies that have looked at how different technologies can enhance learning for different groups of young people
  • Research studies looking at the impacts of e-mentoring on schools, teachers and learners, and the development and uses of on-line resources to support teaching and learning on the topic of climate change
  • Research study looking at how BBC jam is used, and what impacts it has

Recently completed studies:

  • Developing on-line resources to support teaching and learning about climate change, for WMnet RBC
  • Impacts of on-line resources to support mathematics teaching and learning at Key Stage 3, for RM
  • The role and learning benefits of IT Academies, for the DfES
  • The use of broadcast video clips in schools and uses of multimedia support for 'at risk' young people, for the BBC
  • The ways in which uses of ICT are linked to pupil motivation, for the DfES
  • The role of ICT in supporting learning practices for community-based development, for a NDfC project
  • The development of e-learning practices across RBCs and LEAs, including the outcomes of uses of interactive whiteboards
