My research interests are broadly focused on how digital technologies enhance learning. Related to this, I am concerned with digital inclusion to ensure that the potential opportunities for learning offered by digital technologies are available to all; and digital literacy to ensure uses are safe and productive. To provide context for this, I am also interested in understanding how people use digital technologies across the lifespan at home, at school and in other settings.

PhD Supervision Interests

I am interested in receiving PhD proposals in most areas related to digital technologies, education and learning. I'm particularly interested in digital inclusion; disengagement; disability; accessibility; social uses of digital technologies; digital literacy; online safety.

Current Teaching

I am a lecturer on the e-Research and Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) doctoral programme. On the TEL programme I convene and teach ED.S823 Researching Technology Enhanced/Networked Learning, Teaching and Assessment and ED.S824 Researching Technology Enhanced and Networked Learning Communities. I also co-convene ED.S822 The Development of Professional Practice.

I contribute to ED.S100: Education: Contemporary Issues and Debates and PiNE 313 on topics including digital technologies for learning, game-based learning, digital literacy and online safety.

Career Details

I joined the Department of Educational Research in September 2012. Previously I worked at Futurelab - an independent not-for-profit organisation - for three years researching innovative uses of technology for education and learning. Before that I worked as a researcher at the Department of Education at Oxford University and as a lecturer and researcher at the London Knowledge Lab, Institute of Education, London University.
