PhD in Higher Education Research, Evaluation and Enhancement: Programme AimsLike the current residential-based Doctoral Programme in Educational Research upon which it is based (now in its 17th year), this programme aims "to provide an opportunity for experienced professionals to become autonomous researchers and to gain deeper and more critical insight into their own professional practices and concerns." This programme is exclusively designed for higher education professionals of whatever sort, for example: academics; managers; administrators; educational developers; student learning specialists. In addition the programme extends that aim beyond the individual practitioner into the HEI in which they are employed and to the national higher education system in which they operate. Thus a second aim is to contribute to the enhancement of academic practices in course members' HEIs and in some cases, national HE systems through the research and development course members engage in.
