The Department is not currently recruiting to the certificate, diploma and masters courses in Education or Educational Research. Course StructureThe basic course unit is the module. A total of 9 modules (units) are taken. Each postgraduate course is a combination of taught modules together with personal study modules.
All work is graded on the same assessment system, subject to variations due to the demands of the three types of postgraduate courses. The Education modules are taught in blocks over the first two terms of the academic year, each module lasting one term. The course may be taken either on a part-time (up to 4 years) or full-time (1 year) basis. For details of the modules available, see the individual course pages. MA students take 5 taught modules and a self-directed study over terms 1 and 2 and complete a dissertation over the remainder of the year. Diploma students take 4 modules over 2 terms and complete a shorter dissertation (equivalent to 2 self-directed studies) over the remainder of the year. Certificate students take 1 taught module in term 1 and complete 2 self-directed studies over the remainder of the year. Full time registrations: 12 months Please note that part time registrations may be for periods of up to 48 months. A large variety of permutations are possible. Taught modules last for one term and are taught in Term 1 or Term 2, in five discrete blocks. Each block will run over an afternoon. A part-time student may take from 1 to 3 core modules in any year, depending on the time they have available. Over the period of registration one or two self-directed studies (depending on your chosen programme) and the dissertation must also be completed. As these are not time-tabled students may begin these at any convenient point over their period of registration. In the light of past experience most part-time students will complete within three years with a significant minority managing to finish within two. |
