Doctoral Programme in E-Research and Technology Enhanced Learning: Tutors

Dr Sondra Cuban has expertise in distance learning as a director and tutor of a blended learning programme, including pedagogy, practice, curriculum, and learning issues. My research has focused on community technologies, including its use and access in libraries and schools, as well as workplace literacies and adult learning with new media. My current research focuses on migration, gender, learning, and mobile technologies. |

Prof Mary Hamilton is the Programme Director. She is an experienced PhD supervisor and contributes to research methods teaching across the department. Her interests are: social practice approach to engagement with communication technologies across the lifespan; informal and everyday learning; layering of old (print) and new (digital) technologies; academic literacies and on-line writing and learning; discourse analysis, ethnography and multi-modal communication; participatory research methods. |

Dr Bob Kemp is a Lecturer in the Department of Educational Research. He is interested in the evaluation of TEL; teaching staff experiences with new technologies; use of new technologies to support personal information and knowledge management in education; software tools to support writing and reflection. |

Dr Don Passey Dr Don Passey is a Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Educational Research. He is interested in the ways that leading edge technologies impact learning, particularly in how they are used in primary and secondary schools, with young people who are at risk of learning exclusion, across formal and informal learning contexts, and the implications arising for practice and policy. |

Dr Julie-Ann Sime is a Lecturer in the Department of Educational Research. She is interested in technology enhanced professional learning, the
design of virtual learning environments, including games and simulations and
cognitive tools for supporting meta-cognitive skills in learning science and
engineering. |

Professor Paul Trowler has experience of course delivery using LUVLE, Moodle and Sakai in different institutions and departments. He was PI for the HEA-funded student engagement in higher education project, one legacy of which is an interactive SAKAI site (login with username: sakai.guest@gmail.com and password: welcome). After publishing a number of A level Sociology textbooks in the 1980s and 90s he set up a personal website to support and assist students using them, which received thousands of hits while it was active. As a researcher deploying social practice theory, Paul is interested in the interaction between tool-use and practices in a variety of contexts. He predominantly employs qualitative methods, including discourse analysis and ethnography in his research on cultures and change in universities. |
