Carol ElbourneGraduated in 2009
When I started at Lancaster I was quite nervous being that little bit older but all the staff and students made me feel very welcome. One thing that I really feel I must stress about the Psychology in Education programme is when you are part of it you are not just a number or an inanimate face to the tutors you are actually known which I feel makes a huge difference to the quality of the degree experience you get. This also makes the tutors very approachable and they are always willing to help you out (as much as they can). I really enjoyed my time at Lancaster University working within the Educational Research Department and as a result I've not left. I am now undertaking a Masters and a PhD in educational research. In my final year as an undergraduate I completed a module in motivation with Colin Rogers that made me start to ask questions about teachers' motivation to teach. I wrote a PhD proposal (with guidance from members of the department) and managed to secure funding to research this area. I also now teach on some of the statistics modules in the Psychology in Education programme which I am really enjoying. I have decided, due to the experience I had and I'm still having within the department, that now research and lecturing are the areas that I would really love to do. Well I really hope you choose to undertake this degree as I can't praise it highly enough. If you do see me around the department or in the lab, which is dedicated to Psychology in Education students, come and say hello. |
