Thomas Churchyard: Travel, Translation and Tudor Identity

«Back

Summary: Thomas Churchyard (1523?-1604), a prolific, yet critically neglected author, translator and soldier, lurks in the margins of early modern English travel writing. Taking my 2008 article 'The Taxonomies of Travel and Martial Identity in the Works of Thomas Churchyard (1578-87)' as its starting point, the book-length project explores the ways in which Churchyard's copious textual output constructs, and contests, early modern English identities.

In April 2010, I was awarded a 6-month Leverhulme Research Fellowship (2010-11) to complete the book-length study.
