Capturing Witches: Histories, Stories, Images. 400 Years After the Lancashire Witches.
Lancaster University, 17th-19th August 2012
2012 will mark the 400th anniversary of the trial and exectution of the Lancashire Witches. This indisciplinary conference, hosted by the Departments of English and Creative Writing and European Languages and Cultures , uses the Lancashire Witches as a focal point to engage with wider questions about witchcraft, and in particular how witchcraft is theorised and represented in and through history and across cultures.
The conference boats a full programme of papers and other events, with plenary lectures from the children's author Joseph Delaney; Dr Diane Purkiss (Keble College, Oxford) and Dr Robert Poole (University of Cumbria). There will also be a coach tour of Pendle and Bowland and a one-off performance of Heywood and Brome's The Late Lancashire Witches in Lancaster Castle.
There is still time to sign up for this conference. Please see the conference information and registration page or contact Dr Catherine Spooner for further information. |
