Degree Successes for English and Creative Writing Students

Over two dozen Lancaster MA and PhD students received degrees in English Literature and Creative Writing at the degree ceremony held on Wednesday 9th December 2009. Many Distinctions and Merits were awarded to the work of both Literature and Creative Writing MA students. Scroll down the page for photographs of our Departmental reception.

A Princess Alexandra Medal was awarded to Eleanor Fitton (left, with her supervisor Professor Lynne Pearce) for her outstanding achievement in the MA in Literary Research: the Chancellor's Medals, initiated by Lancaster’s founding Chancellor, HRH Princess Alexandra, are awarded for academic merit to the highest-performing undergraduates and postgraduates.

The degree of PhD in Creative Writing was awarded to Rebecca Irvine Bilkau for her novel, Moving, and to Monique Roffey for her novel White Woman on a Green Bicycle. Monique's novel was published by Simon and Schuster on 6th July 2009.

On the day after the degree ceremony, another of our PhD students, Zoe Bolton, successfully defended her thesis on Textuality and Travel. Both of the examiners were very impressed with her work. Zoe will receive her degree in one of our 2010 ceremonies.
