The Creative Writing PhD

Cover image of Ray Robinson's novel Electricity'The Creative Writing Ph.D. at Lancaster University has offered me a fantastic opportunity to explore the craft and context of my writing in depth over a period of three years.' Read more about some of the past students who have taken the PhD in Creative Writing.

'The last two years have been incredibly challenging, but I feel that ultimately this is the process that will equip me for my future career, whether that's writer/academic or, most probable, a combination of both. There is a lot of collective experience in this department and people who want you to do well.' Read more about what our current MA and PhD students say.

'This is a real chance to focus on writing and to feel the group dynamic, all together for the same reason. It was great to be away from everyday distractions and to be installed in a combined atmosphere of writing and bonding.'

'Each workshop added depth, detail and meaning to the last. Each was effective as a unit, teaching structure, language and voice in turn. The gradual intensifying of effect and various epiphanies have helped me hugely. The tutorials were the central events for turning fresh discovery in to writing.' Read more from our archives.
